Dragon Rampant - The Northern Tribes

The boy and I are planning on giving Dragon Rampant a go at the weekend so I thought it was about time I got some warbands together. Of course, this being based on the Lion Rampant rules it took me all of ten minutes! I love the ease with which you can make up pretty much anything you like!

Anyway, the first up are The Northern Tribes (made up from my Frostgrave figures)...a loose alliance of petty chiefdoms from The North forever fighting incursions from The Frozen Wastes.

Chieftain (Single Model Unit)

Elite Foot + Leader @ 6 Points

Beserker (Single Model Unit)

Bellicose Foot @ 4 Points

Sword Maidens (Reduced Model Unit)

Elite Foot @ 6 Points

Druids (Reduced Model Unit)

Heavy Foot + Spellcaster @ 8 Points

Warriors (Reduced Model Unit)

Bellicose Foot @ 4 Points

Bear (Single Model Unit)

Lesser Warbeast @ 4 Points

War Dogs (Reduced Model Unit)

Lesser Warbeasts @ 4 Points

So with the above I could field up to 36 Points with just 17 models. Simple as that! Of course, we shall see if they're any good at the weekend...

Dragon Rampant

My copy of Dragon Rampant has arrived! Great production values, as always! I've really enjoyed the games I've had of Lion Rampant but it's a bit of a struggle for me to get enough figures together for these larger skirmish games...especially with so many games vying for my attention (I'm actually trying to concentrate on getting enough figures together for the next set of Dan Mersey rules due out in the Summer...The Men Who Would Be King)! 

So although I picked up Dragon Rampant, I didn't actually think I'd get much chance to play it any time soon unless it was to add the odd fantasy element to my Viking warbands. However, after a quick skim through I've realised that the rules have been adapted to cater for Single Model Units and Reduced Model Units by giving them Strength Points! Brilliant! This means that all those figures I have for Frostgrave and Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish can easily do for Dragon Rampant! 

In fact, North Star have just posted up a 'How to' in their latest online North Star Magazine here for converting your Frostgrave warband to Dragon Rampant! 

Looks like I might get a game of Dragon Rampant in sooner than I thought!

Whitechapel Specials, Watchmen and Special Agents for In Her Majesty's Name

Matt of Glenbrook Games recently finished up some figures for my planned In Her Majesty's Name Mars Campaign that I hope to do at some point this year. I'll be using mainly figures from Artizan's FOG Red Planet range but with some Ironclad Miniatures' Sanwar (see my Jah Mors, Prince of Mars IHMN Company here) and a few other ranges.

Christmas Goodies!

Santa was very kind to me this year as I found a few wargames-related (sort of) things under the Christmas tree. I must have been a very good boy in 2015!

I've not done much console/computer gaming since the kids were born...in fact, the last time I had a Playstation was back in the days of PS2...but Santa brought the kids a PS4 this year and I was lucky enough to get some great-looking games myself. I've not had much chance to try them out yet but once the kids go back to school it will be a different matter...I do worry, though, about the effects a PS4 will have on my free time!

The history books all look superb...in fact, I'm already deep into The War in the West and it is so far superb. I highly recommend it! It also happens to go very well with the DVD of Dunkirk...one of my favourite old war films...up there with Ice Cold in Alex! And then you can never have enough KR Multicases, in my humble opinion!

I hope you all had a good New Years and the hangovers are all history!
