Dark Dungeon Gaming Mat from Ceri Design

I got my Dark Dungeon 4' x 3' gaming mat from the Ceri Design kickstarter last week...and it looks great!

The brown-tinged flagstones and cobblestones will be great for everything from Victorian streets to lost cities to dungeons deep. They will also go well with the Badlands Battlefield in a Box stuff I have...at least I think so but most of my stuff is in storage at the moment so I'll have to wait to find out for sure.

And it fits our kitchen table perfectly. I really need to give it an iron, though...but that too is in storage!

Anyway, I am certainly planning on picking some more up soon!

Gaming Mats Kickstarter from Ceri Design

Dark Dungeon Mat

I came across this Kickstarter today. Very reasonably priced felt gaming mats with some good designs. I've also seen some positive reviews on a couple of Facebook gaming groups. I may be tempted...

Renedra Tower

Just saw this posted up on Renedra's Facebook page...

It's been a while since we showed anything of the Tower project that we are working on, but in between working on some of our customers upcoming projects for Salute release and beyond we have been steadily progressing this project. The initial release will be the Tower this can be customised to be either fantasy or generic - but our aim is for the Tower section to be utilised with sections of ramparts and crenellations to construct a full castle, this is still a work in progress and to date we have 3 frames to show, these are lower and middle wall sections, upper wall sections and a frame with portcullis, doors and corner pieces. The next frame we are working on is the Tower crenellations with two different sets of gargoyle and wall torches. The last part is a base, this goes inside the top section, and another one on the top that if not glued will be easy to remove allowing figures to be placed inside the top section firing weapons from the windows. What we are planning to do is sell the basic Tower as a boxed set and the other sections will be bagged and can be bought as individual sections as to customers requirements. Prices haven't been finalised yet. Our priority is to get the Tower finished for Salute release from us. We will have a diorama on our trade stand of the front section showing how this can be converted to a castle. We will also have pictures that we have taken on the workbench showing different ways in which the parts can be assembled to customise the build.

Renedra's first lot of Ruins look great and I have their second lot of Ruins primed and ready to paint (I'll get around to it soon, hopefully) so I shall certainly be picking the Castle and Tower bits up when they're released.

Deep Cut Studio - Frostgrave Wargames Terrain Mat

Deepcut Studios have just released a rather splendid Frostgrave Terrain Mat. I must admit that up until now I've never really considered any of the snow or ice themed mats...partly because I've not wanted my Frostgrave figures and terrain to be limited to a snow or ice theme but also because none of the mats have really grabbed me. But this one looks great!

I'm a big fan of their cloth mats and already own their Wastelands and Red Planet ones. I also have their Cobblestone, Desert and Steppe mats on my (oh-so-big) wishlist...this one, I think, shall have to join them!

Badlands Bluff - Battlefield in a Box

The Battlefield in a Box Gothic range is impossible to get hold of these days but the Badlands range has always been even rarer. Not only are they perfect for Wild West games but they'd look pretty good in the Lost World and on Mars, too! I've been on the look-out for anything from the range for a long time but to no avail. So when I got an eBay alert that something was available I assumed it would be outrageously priced but I was in luck....they had the Badlands Bluff and not only was it on Buy-it-Now at retail price but they had a couple for sale! Blimey! I didn't hesitate in picking them up straight away.

These will do very nicely for our planned In Her Majesty's Name Mars campaign later on in the year...

The figures are from Ironclad Miniatures and make up our Jah Mors, Prince of Mars In Her Majesty's Name Company, painted for us, as always, by the inimitable Matt Slade of Glenbrook Games.

Deep Cut Studio - Red Planet Theme Wargames Terrain Mat

Within a few days of my Deep Cut Studio Wastelands Theme Mat arriving, I splashed out on a second mat...tempted by yet another of Wayland Games seemingly frequent discounts. This time I went for the Red Planet Theme Mat as I'm planning on doing an In Her Majesty's Name Mars campaign at some point next year.

Well, after five weeks, my mat finally arrived...and it looks superb (I'm afraid my camera...and the gloomy day...really doesn't do the mat justice)!

I'm now waiting for another Wayland Games discount/sale and I shall pick up another...just finding it hard to decide between the Cobblestone one, the Desert one or the Steppe one....

Deep Cut Studio - Wastelands Theme Wargames Terrain Mat

Somewhere near the border with Mexico...
I've been tempted for a while by the many excellent wargames mats I've seen being used...particularly Cigar Box Battle mats (now available from North Star) and Deep Cut Studio mats (now available from Wayland Games). My only concerns have been that they sometimes seem to make the table look a bit too 'busy' and the cost...they aren't cheap!

However, when Wayland Games recently started stocking Deep Cut Studio mats, I thought I'd take the plunge and so I bought a Wastelands Theme Cloth mat which I figure will do nicely for Dead Man's Hand, In Her Majesty's Name and the upcoming The Men Who Would Be Kings. It arrived a couple of weeks ago and I was surprised at how thin it was...I was expecting some sort of thin fleece whereas this is much thinner. That said it seems to be pretty tough and sturdy, is machine-washable (I tried it!) and looks the business...so I'm well pleased!

So much so that I just ordered a Red Planet mat for my planned In Her Majesty's Name Mars Campaign and plan to pick up the Cobblestone one soon, too, for both Frostgrave and In Her Majesty's Name!

First Game of Frostgrave!

They boy and I had our first game of Frostgrave this afternoon. And we loved it! Fast-paced and full of action...lots of fun. I'll do a proper AAR sometime over the next week but in the meantime I thought I'd post a few pics of the ruins of Frostgrave...

...and the two wizards with their warbands!

Black Angus the Necromancer with his apprentice, Magaidh, the barbarian brothers, Fingal and Connor, and the ranger, Hamish.

Arzhel the Elementalist with his apprentice, Sterenn, the knight, Marrec, the templar, Tristan, and the marksman, Alan.

Frostgrave Treasure Markers

Just a quick post today. I finally got around to painting up the Frostgrave Treasure Markers from the Nickstarter in preparation for our game this weekend. Not too bad for a ham-fisted beginner like me...I'm pretty happy with them.

Now I just need to remind myself of the rules as it's been a while since I read through the rule book...

[edit: added a new pic]

Someone advised me on the LAF forums to add a thin line or two of pure white to the bottle to make it look more bottle-like so I've given that a go...

Gothic Ruined Walls - Battlefield in a Box

Ever since Frostgrave was announced at the beginning of the year I've been picking up as much of the Battlefield in a Box Gothic range as I can get my hands on. I did manage to get quite a few pieces before the release but even then many of them were impossible to get hold of. One box I would have loved to get was the Gothic Ruined Walls...so when I saw a secondhand set on eBay and at a reasonable buy-it-now price I was faster than a speeding bullet!

These pieces will tie the rest of my Battlefield in a Box Gothic stuff together really nicely! Now if I can just get hold of some of those Corner Ruins!

Renedra Ruins

I recently picked up the two new plastic Renedra Ruins sets with the intention of adding them to my Frostgrave/Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish table and I've just finished painting them up.

They're cheap, easy to put together and paint and have loads of character. I really like them...so much so that I think I shall pick up some more.

I also painted up a Fenris Yggdrasil Tomb which I picked up a while back.
