Frostgrave Into the Breeding Pits Gnickstarter

The Frostgrave Into the Breeding Pits Gnickstarter is now live...at least for those of us who subscribe to the North Star newsletter! I'm sure it will be up for everyone else soon enough.

This time...it's already been an expensive year and there are lots of other shiny new toys on the horizon...I shall only be going in at Level 1 and getting just the book and reference card/wizard sheet.

Level 1
There is also an early bird discount of 10% for those who place their order before June 6th. Not to be sniffed at especially if you are going all in!

Now I just have to stay strong and try and ignore all the blogs and forums going Frostgrave crazy for the next month or so!

Custom Dice Bag

Matt Slade of Glenbrook Games has recently expanded his painting service into making embroidered dice bags. I am now the proud owner of this rather brilliant custom-made dice bag...

If you're interested in your very own, then you can contact Matt via this post on his own blog here.

More Odin's Ravens from Osprey Games

Back in February I mentioned that my pre-order copy of Odin's Ravens from Osprey Games had arrived. And, boy...has it seen a lot of play since then. It helps that a game only takes around twenty minutes...although this really is one of those 'just one more' type games so I don't actually think we've ever just played one.

I can't recommend this game enough if you are a fan of fast-paced, two-player games with a bit of strategy. The boy and I love it. A lot.

Here's an Osprey video explaining the rules...

...and here's another showing a full play-through...

You can find more reviews and play-throughs on BoardGameGeek. It can also be picked up pretty cheaply if you look around.

Boxer Rebellion Kickstarter from EMP Games

Edwin King of the blog Thoughts of a Depressive Diplomatist brought this Kickstarter to my attention. EMP Games are part of the Wargames Emporium. Nice sculpts and very reasonably priced. Very tempting.

Sam Fury and the crew of the Dragonfly - Counterblast Crew!

Here is the second (see the first here) Bombshell Miniatures crew for Counterblast...trader and sometime smuggler Sam Fury and the crew of the Dragonfly!

Such wonderful minis with loads of character...and expertly painted by Matt (of Glenbrook Games) for me, of course! Really looking forward to getting them on the gaming table!

Jax Silver and the crew of the Shadow Hawk...Counterblast Crew!

I recently got my latest lot of figs back from Matt of Glenbrook Games. This time some of Bombshell Miniatures wonderful Counterblast figures! Matt has done a superb job as always!

Here are some pics of the first crew...the notorious space pirate Jax Silver and the crew of the Shadow Hawk!

I'm hoping to try out the Counterblast rules (you can download them for free here) with my boy sometime in the next week or two!

Next up...Sam Fury and the crew of the Dragonfly!

Against the Trolls - Blood Eagle AAR

The boy and I have at last finished the comic book battle report for the Blood Eagle game we had a couple of weeks ago! Hoorah!

Although it was our first game of Blood Eagle we are old hands at playing In Her Majesty's Name so we decided to straight away try out all the 'new' stuff by going for a 'legendary' game with Hero Points, Pagan Magic and Legendary Creatures. We quickly put together a 'legendary' Viking warband...the Brothers Magnusson...using the rules for making up warbands and then, using the bestiary as inspiration, we made up our own take on trolls...a Troldfolk warband. This is one of the things I love about both In Her Majesty's Name and Blood Eagle...it is so easy to adapt and make up whatever you want, indeed, you are actively encouraged to do so! I probably have as much fun making up warbands, companies and beasties as I do playing the game!

Anyway, after making up the warbands my son and I finally managed to find a free afternoon to get a game in a couple of weeks ago. We made up our own scenario...a legendary sword in the middle of the table which the Vikings need to get off the table. The Trolls need to stop them. My boy wanted to play the Trolls so I took the Vikings. I must admit I was a bit worried that the Trolls would tear the poor Vikings apart in record time...

...well, without further ado, here is the battle report!

You can find a bigger and easier-to-read PDF version on Google Drive here and Dropbox here.

As you can see my fears were groundless! The Vikings won the day! Closely fought to begin with...the dice gods were smiling on me that day as in one turn I managed some outstanding rolls whilst my son 's luck deserted him and he lost three of his Trolls including the big chap. Despite the sudden surprise defeat, my son loved it...we both had a lot of fun.

Next time we hope to have the Brothers Magnusson ambushed by some Skraelings under the leadership of a Shaman!

All the miniatures were painted for me by the inimitable Matt Slade of Glenbrook Games.

Flint & Feather Miniatures and North Star

I've just read the latest North Star newsletter and it has confirmed that they will be stocking Bob Murch's Flint & Feather figures 'later on'. This is great news! I certainly plan on picking up the lot for my Conan games as well as Blood Eagle as soon as they do!

In other news...it's been a bit quiet on the gaming and blog front. Real life getting in the way.

The good news is Matt has just finished up my latest lot of figs...the Counterblast crews from Bombshell Miniatures...and they look brilliant. I shall be posting pics of them up as soon as I get a chance. We shall also hopefully be getting them on the gaming table soon.

We are also halfway through doing the comic battle report for our Blood Eagle game of a couple of weeks ago...it shouldn't be too much longer before we get it finished and posted up.

Flint & Feather Kickstarter

The Flint & Feather Kickstarter from Bob Murch and Crucible Crush is live here

I'm sorely tempted as these are wonderful figures and could work just as well for Skraelings in Blood Eagle or SAGA and Picts in Conan games.

I'm less interested in the rules, though...and so £90 plus shipping for 28 figures is kind of pricey. Maybe I'll just wait and hope North Star will stock the figures later on as they have with Bob Murch's Pulp Figures.
